How to hold your hands

Touch typing means every finger has its own keys. Before you start, take a minute to find the home position: it's where your fingers return after every key.

1. Find the bumps

   Feel for the small raised bars on F and J. Put your left index finger on F and your right index finger on J, without looking.

2. Place the other fingers

   Left hand: ASDF. Right hand: JKL;. Each finger rests lightly on its key in the middle row.

3. Thumbs on the space bar

   Both thumbs hover over the space bar. Use whichever feels natural.

4. Every finger has a colour

   On the keyboard above, each finger has its own colour, and letters in the game use the same colours. Reach for a key with its finger, then return to the home position.

5. Sit comfortably

   Sit up with your feet on the floor. Keep your wrists straight and slightly raised, not resting on the desk while you type. Fingers gently curved.

6. Look at the screen

   Try not to look down at the keys. It's slow at first, and that's fine: in the game, a key that misses costs nothing.
